TaiChat

Privacy policy

Your family's privacy, protected

TaiChat is a messaging app built for kids aged 8 to 15 and the parents who look after them. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the control you keep over it.

Effective date: 6 July 2026

1. Who this policy covers

TaiChat has two kinds of account: parent accounts and child accounts. A child account can only exist inside a family created by an identity-verified parent. Because of this, we treat every child account as belonging to a minor and apply the strongest protections to it by default.

2. Information we collect

We collect only what we need to run a safe messaging service:

  • Parent information. Name, email address, phone number, and the identity-verification (KYC) details required to confirm you are a real adult who can run a family.
  • Child information. A display name, age or age range, avatar, and the parent-approved friend and chat activity needed to make the app work. We do not ask children for more personal detail than the app requires.
  • Messages and shared content. Chats are end-to-end encrypted. Content is screened by automated filters on-device or in transit to block vulgar words, unsafe images, and disallowed files before delivery.
  • Technical information. Device type, app version, IP address, and diagnostic logs used to keep the service secure and reliable.

3. How we use information

  • Provide, maintain, and improve the TaiChat app.
  • Verify parents and let them approve friends and manage their family.
  • Run the content filters that keep chats, calls, and voice notes age-appropriate.
  • Respond to support requests and keep you informed.
  • Detect, prevent, and respond to abuse, fraud, and safety risks.

We never sell your data, and we do not show children behavioural or targeted advertising.

4. Children's privacy and parental consent

A child cannot join TaiChat on their own. Their account is created through a parent invite, and it is the verified parent who consents to our collection and use of that child's information. Parents can review their child's information, approve or remove friends, and delete the child account at any time from within the app.

We aim to comply with children's privacy laws such as COPPA and the GDPR-K provisions for minors. If you believe a child has given us information without the required parental consent, contact us and we will delete it.

5. Content filtering and moderation

To keep the app safe, messages and shared media pass through automated filters. This screening is used only to block unsafe content and enforce our safety rules. It is not used to build advertising profiles or to sell insights about your family.

6. How we share information

We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information. We share it only in these limited cases:

  • With your consent, for a purpose you have approved.
  • Service providers. Trusted partners (for example, hosting, identity verification, and app analytics) who process data on our behalf under strict confidentiality terms.
  • Legal and safety. When required by law, or to protect the safety of a child, our users, or the public.

7. Data security and encryption

Chats are protected with end-to-end encryption, and we apply technical and organisational safeguards to protect all data we hold. No system is perfectly secure, but we work continuously to reduce risk and respond quickly to any issue.

8. Data retention

We keep information for as long as an account is active and only as long as needed for the purposes in this policy or to meet legal obligations. When a parent deletes a family or a child account, we remove or anonymise the associated personal data within a reasonable period.

9. Cookies and similar technologies

Our website may use limited cookies and similar technologies to keep the site working and understand how it is used. You can control cookies through your browser settings; blocking them may affect some features of the site.

10. Your rights and controls

Depending on where you live, you and your child may have the right to:

  • Access, correct, or delete personal information.
  • Withdraw consent for processing.
  • Export a copy of the data associated with an account.
  • Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

Parents can exercise most of these controls directly in the app, or by contacting us using the details below.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will post the new version here and update the effective date. Significant changes will be communicated in the app or by email.
